OYAP/ Evening Coop/Dual Credit

Are you looking for a chance to earn 2, 3, or even 4 high school credits and, at the same time, gain valuable experience in the workplace?

If your answer is yes, Evening Cooperative Education at the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario is for you!

Cooperative Education is a learning experience that combines the classroom and the workplace. The courses are valuable to all adult learners as they are designed to suit the adult learner’s strengths, interests, and needs, to enhance their preparation for the future.

Credits can be obtained by completing 90 hours of workplace experience with your present employer, or in a work placement of your choice, set up for you by one of our cooperative education teachers. As you work, you will receive pre-employment training and regularly scheduled in-class or e-learning instruction!

How Can You Register?

During the registration process, you will be required to provide a copy of your transcript, which you can get by contacting the school you last attended (i.e. your high school, even if you did not graduate).

The evening cooperative education program is always accepting new students. Please see the brochure below for more information!

Is an apprenticeship an option?

Adult Education Apprenticeship Overview Brochure:
An apprenticeship is a pathway and method of training that is hands on. You learn on the job from people who know the job and get paid to learn your job. Most apprenticeships are between 3 to 5 years, requiring in school training and completion of a provincial examination to receive their Certificate of Qualifications.

Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP)

The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) provides a way for you to begin your apprenticeship training on the job while meeting high school diploma requirements through cooperative education.

OYAP is a specialized program that enables full-time students to explore careers in the skilled trades while earning valuable workplace experience in an occupation that requires apprenticeship as you work towards your Ontario Secondary School Diploma. You may be officially registered as an apprentice in your trade area (Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development) and begin your post-secondary apprenticeship training program at a partnering college or training delivery agent.

To be eligible for OYAP, applicants must:

  • be at least 16 years old;
  • have completed 16 credits towards the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) prior to starting the program;
  • be enrolled as a full-time student during the program through the CDSBEO School of Alternative and Continuing Education in a Cooperative Education program;
  • be working towards the completion of all OSSD requirements
